New Year New Room Challenge Week 3–Send Help

Hey, everyone! Welcome to the next-to-last installment of Casa Watkins’ New Year New Room Refresh Challenge.

Remember last year when I was all wrapped up two weeks early and sat around watching Housewives and eating gummy bears while everyone else was sweating it out to the finish line? You know what Shannon Bedore says about Karma, right? Karma is basically throat-punching me right now.

So here we are, in the same sad place we were last week, hoping that the grasscloth will magically adhere itself to the walls or that I can convince Michael it would be oodles of fun to spend his first weekend off in 5 weeks helping me with this project. The installer won’t return my calls and it’s reached full-blown panic stage over here.

No need for a new picture! It still looks exactly like this one.

You may be wondering what happened to the wall of wainscoting. I had a bid done several weeks ago by the guys who do all of my crown moulding. The bid wasn’t crazy expensive ($10 a square foot for supplies, installation, and painting), but we’re waiting to hear about aΒ possible transfer (I’ll keep you posted!) and are really reluctant to make any large changes to the house right now.

You’ll notice there is no DIY art piece this week, either. #epicloser The upside to this is that you don’t have to suffer through another one of my sad, sad DIY attempts. Time to put you nice people out of your misery and send you off to see what the other lovely ladies accomplished this week. (They’re probably watching Housewives and eating gummy bears in their finished rooms.)

Many thanks to the generous sponsors who are supplying product for this makeover. I’ll create a room worthy of free product or die trying! (A serious possibility. You should see my calendar this week.)

Who’s up for a huge surprise when I reveal the room next week? (It’s going to be a huge surprise for me, too.) Tomorrow I’ll have kitchen pictures from the client project that wrapped up a couple of weeks ago–woohoo! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a great day!

  1. Oh I know what it feels like to be in limbo. Maybe focus on the things you can take with you (or that adds value to the house? ) I know whatever you do will be pretty!

    1. Thanks, Kathy! You also know how it’s not a done deal until the orders are in print form. πŸ™‚ I’m a little bummed I didn’t get to finish the room the way I wanted, especially because I know the housing we’re looking at is dismal, at best. But we figure it’s a good tradeoff and I’m looking forward to renting for a little while. It will be nice to take a break from the obligations of home ownership!

  2. Sharon! You crack me up and literally have me in tears right now! I just picture all of us sitting around in half-finished spaces eating gummy bears and saying screw it! haha I know you’ve had some challenging issues come your way with this space, but I know whatever happens, you’re going to make it look beautiful next week! xo

    1. Wouldn’t that be nice? I’ve got a bottle of white wine with my name on it for Monday night after I get all of the pictures taken. πŸ™‚

    1. I feel better now that I’ve found a wallpaper installer (provided he actually shows up at some point). Reliable contractors are worth their weight in gold.

    1. The timeline is very tight, and this is the first weekend since the challenge kicked off that I’ll get to work on it. I would love a totally finished space for everyone to see–fingers crossed!

    1. Thanks, friend! Yes, it’s going to get finished and my whole “die trying” bit might actually come true. πŸ˜‰ I figure the transfer is imminent with all the new client work I’m picking up and money being spent in the dining room. Reverse psychology because we really want it!

    1. Thanks, Cat! This is going to be a crazy weekend for all of us, I’m sure! So glad the reveal isn’t on a Monday because I’m going to need the entire weekend to get this project finished.

    1. Thanks, Jen! I came out of the gate really strong and knew that the installation part would trip me up. I don’t like relying on other people’s timelines, but this project is beyond my skillset and the last thing I want to do is destroy the beautiful grasscloth.

  3. Oh, Sharon–I am sure it’ll be awesome! Take this to the “mini” facelift level and it’ll be lovely. Sure hope the transfer comes through for you and your family!

    1. Thank you, Connie! I found a wallpaper installer who was able to fit me in last minute, so I think the crisis is averted. He has excellent reviews and was very nice on the phone. I appreciate your kind words about the transfer. It would be a wonderful opportunity for our family.

    1. Thank you so much for the vote of confidence! I’ve hung wallpaper before, but not real grasscloth and I’m afraid of ruining it. Plus, covering a small wall is a whole lot easier than an entire room. Everything is ready to go (curtains, rug, accessories, etc.) so the walls are the only thing holding me back. Too bad it’s a huge part of the finished room!

  4. lol you are so funny Sharon! I have to admit I slacked big time this week myself. It’s all good, I’m sure it will come together beautifully. Can’t wait to see that wallpaper!

  5. Sharon, you have the best ideas when it comes to decorating. However, I might not be inclined to do the wallpaper if you might get transferred. Just saying…save it in case you need it at the next house?

Having said that…I hope you don’t have to move unless it’s back to your home. πŸ™‚

    1. I know! I wish I had a crystal ball before deciding if I should hang the grasscloth. The move would be a really exciting one and one we requested (as opposed to every other time we’ve moved!) so waiting for an answer is hard. But it’s the gov’t so we’ll probably have to wait another few weeks. πŸ™‚

    1. Glad I’m not alone! Totally freaking out since my house is now officially the last one on my list. πŸ™ They tried to send Michael out of town again starting tomorrow and I about died. I think he dodged the trip but still have a feeling I’ll be hanging wallpaper by my lonesome.
